Work In Progress

If you have read any of my blogs before you will be aware that in my initial first draft I find pictures of how I perceive my main characters should look.

I am editing a specific scene in my Mystery and decided some visual assistance will help, as it is far removed from my own experience.

Message to Myself re my Current Manuscript

In other words, I must get moving with my in progress Manuscript and JUST DO IT! 

Author : Are you Looking in the Mirror?

When creating characters for my "A Question of Love" published novel in the Romance genre; and my current 'in progress' draft in the Romance / Mystery genre, I am most definitely not 'looking in the mirror'.

I can only speak for myself and not for any other author, but when I create a story, and characters, I am  in my own world, creating fiction.  Each and every character is not based on any experience of mine, or any trait I may have acquired, and entirely a figment of my imagination.

What will, however, be part of my own experience, is a place, a time, or a career background, even as an observer.

Often there is a misconception by readers, one is using personal experience, due perhaps an author has to explore deep emotions in our main characters' daily lives and conflicts.  This is entirely divorced from one's own viewpoints, feelings, morals and even talents and prowess.  If I was to define a single point, perhaps that is what makes the encompassing desire 'to write' so completely intriguing.

I for my part cannot sit down with my manuscript and become involved, if there is "stuff" I must deal with at home.  It is unlike any other job.

Last time I blogged I depicted some of the chores which have a nasty habit of interfering with my writing.  Actually, this is what my author files look like, which include my work-in-progress Romance/Mystery where I rightly or wrongly like to literally picture my characters.  In actual fact I could be an ideal secretary to a top, top Best Selling Author living in a very beautiful Island somewhere!

Of course all writers also spend lots of time at their computer:

Important also one combines what could be considered a solitary occupation with a balanced lifestyle, which for me includes the Gym.

When I was employed in the "real world" I used to enjoy the rather lengthy return journey home by car.  I actually enjoyed the slow 'stop and start' due to rush hour traffic!  This enabled me to "switch off" after the day's events 'in the world of law'.

My life now.  Self-explanatory ....

Now I am a home-based "Indie" writer, have published one book already, and am in the throes of my second. 

I find that in the world of writing, whether you are a famous 'Best Seller' or just starting the writing journey, once you have chosen the 'writing path',  those words are surely true!

The Villain

When I started writing I perceived the protagonist to be my most interesting character.  Now that I am "marrying" romance with mystery, I am surprising myself as another character is demanding much of my attention:

As I already have a completed draft story, I can change my mind anywhere in its development to be a woman villain (or villains for that matter) which makes writing (and the concomitant on-going learning process) quite amazing.  Bring it on!
